Lighthouse helps men and women break the cycle of prison incarceration. Our specific focus is Bible-based education to change the hearts of those still in prison, and structured rehabilitation to change their lives following release. We save lost souls, broken lives and taxpayer dollars!
- Over 1,000,000 people in the U.S. are incarcerated
- 1 in 100 Americans is behind bars (Associated Press)
- 49 billion is spent on Corrections; 6 times the investment in higher education (Pew Center)
A 2002 study conducted by the Bureau of Justice Statistics found that 66% of released prisoners are re–arrested and 50% are re–incarcerated within 3 years of release from prison. Over 60% of these offenses are committed in the year following release. Parolees usually end up going right back into the same environment they came from, and are likely to repeat their criminal activity.
Through personal contact with these inmates, we have found that they are overwhelmed and frightened as they get close to their release date. Most of them have no place to go for the help they need. Paroled individuals are considered high-risk/hard-to-employ! The lack of education, life-skills and job training makes it virtually impossible for them to find employment.
Without a transitional program of structured rehabilitation that includes Bible study and fellowship, 12-step program for substance abuse, vocational and job placement coaching, and counseling to release anxiety and anger, they simply do not have a prayer.
Lighthouse Educational Prison Ministries is comprised of six teams, with a goal to expand as we recruit, equip and empower additional volunteers. We provide services at Orange County Jails, the California Institution for Women in Chino, CA., and Chuckawalla Valley State Prison in Blythe, CA. Over one hundred people attend each service, and up to half make a decision for Christ. We support that decision by encouraging them to participate in Bible Studies and baptism, and we distribute Bible study materials and devotionals.
God’s desire is to reach everyone, especially the outcasts of society. Please proceed to the Objectives & Needs section to see how you can help us reach and rehabilitate parolees in California!
